Four facts inspired the birth and success of The Online Accountant. Here's a free! ride to my secret.

Hello, my name is Paul Kateza the online Accountant from Uganda, and I'm the founder and owner of Small Business Accounting Guide.com.

I'm really glad you're visiting this area of our site, and this page could turn out to be very important for you.

It is just a more or less brief description of why the idea of becoming an online accountant and advisor to small business owners was born and how we have been able to make it a success.

I've decided to publish it because I'm convinced that it could be of use to many professionals in fields like accounting, law, medicine, management, communication, engineering and so on with a passion to excel in life. If that's you or some one you know, then I’ll see my objective accomplished.

I truly hope that you'll also get some benefit from reading how I easily became an online accountant without necessarily attending an internet business class.

I first of all take pride in being a member of the largest international body of Chartered Accountants based in the UK. I’m also a member of the Alumni of one of the best rated Universities in the UK, with a degree in Accounting.

I’m married with one kid. My wife who doubles as my business Partner is also a member of the prestigious international body of accountants and an accounting graduate. Thanks to her, I have a stand by online accountant who regularly steps in to address the needs of our online visitors when I’m too busy.

Presently, my working experience stands at eight years, during which I’ve worked on specialized assignments in fields like book keeping, taxation, external audit, internal audit project planning, and currently as a finance manager in a subsidiary company of a multinational setup.

If you're looking for someone to handle a project appraisal for your medium business, send me the details. I'll be happy to provide a free, no-obligation quote. Unlike many freelancers, I offer the option of pricing by the hour OR the project, meaning you'll have a better idea up front of what your investment will be.

If you have questions about anything you have read on my site or other accounting and business topics, feel free to contact us . As time allows, I’m willing to answer basic accounting and strategic business questions (at no cost).

Inspired By The Quadrants

My drive to finally becoming an online accountant was inspired from a book called Cash flow Quadrants by Kiyosaki.

The core of Kiyosaki’s message is as follows:

People can earn money in one or more of the following four ways:

  • People can work for a salary with all its advantages and disadvantages.
  • People can become investors. This requires capital, specialist knowledge and I suppose nerves of steel.
  • People can become self-employed. Doctors, Accountants, lawyers and plumbers are all examples of self-employed individuals. Typically, during the start up phase of being self-employed, the individual won’t be very busy but as the business takes off s/he will become busier and busier. This means family members will see less and less of him/her and the individual’s stress levels will go higher and higher as they work longer hours.

There is also a limit to how much this business can earn as there is a limit to the number of hours the individual can work and there is a limit to the rate charged perhour. Another negative is that the person is the business and the business is the person. If the person were to stop working (due to ill health, vacation, even death), the business comes to a temporary halt or can even totally cease to exist.

  • People can become business owners just like the online accountant. Typically during the start-up phase of a business, the owner will work very long hours building the business. Slowly things will kick in as the business starts to working. As the business becomes more successful, the owner spends less time on it.

The business has developed into an ‘organism’ independent from the owner. It has taken on a life of its own and keeps on functioning even if the owner or like in our case the online accountant is not around.

Once the business is really working, the owner’s involvement reduces to the point where only minor input is required. The business owner is free to start building the next business. There typically is no ceiling to the earning potential of a well designed business.

Starting the hard way

I resolved to find out how best I was going to use my knowledge to become a business owner for a nominal return. I read about how companies in the developed countries are out sourcing services through the internet to people in developing countries like Uganda at competitive rates.

I decided that the best way to became an online accountant was to set up a website, but did not know how. I was introduced to the modalities of hosting, maintenance and design fees, but the cost was beyond my reach.

I was also given an option of hiring space on another website with promises of instant returns. It all sounded good and real. So a prominent webmaster with a tourism site about Uganda set up my contact page on his website for a $30 monthly fee.

It failed miserably...

After 9 months of no clients or inquiries, I researched and found out the hard way that I could not become a successful online accountant just by slapping up a web site. I learn't that you need a plan, just as with any other business. There's no "Get Rich Quick" on the Net (unless you can convince others there is, and take their money without remorse). I blindly bought into the hype, without knowing anything.

Next I started to look around if I could find a way to make me succeed. I wanted to learn the process of building a successful online business, and I found it ……

The Underlying Principle

You have to know what you're doing, and you must work at it.

You probably found this site while searching for information on how the online accountant can address your concerns, but not by chance. We work at it following a specific method that results in a site that is actually found if you search for a term like online accounting.

It's no big secret. You can do it too! If you have a minute to spare, I'll share with you what I've learnt to be successful on the Internet, and where I learnt it.

First you build Content. Information about subjects people are actually searching for with terms like online accountant. And you do it in such a way that it scores high in the search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN and the like).

That results in Traffic to your site. People won't come to your site, unless they can find you.

If you offer good information, they'll keep coming. And they'll come to know, trust and respect you. This is the third step, Preselling.

And with the trust and respect comes the ability to actually make Money with your site, either by promoting other businesses, or advertising, or selling your own products. In fact, these are just a few of the possibilities.

In my case I chose to become an online accountant.

A narrow path to the Solution

Those close to me know I can research the heck out of all options before buying something. That’s exactly what I did before building this website as an online accountant.

I researched and searched for months, and the more I read, the more I realized why my tourist site host was a wastage of my effort and money. I learnt that I had to do more than just get a website host and wait for people to come. I also learnt that i needed to take specific steps, such as including certain words when writing the site content, to help generate the much needed traffic.

In one book I purchased, Entrepreneur Magazine’s “Start Your Own e-Business,” a web businessman mentioned Site Build It! as the best affiliate marketing program. It wasn’t even really an endorsement, just a mention that he used Site Build It! I jotted the name down as a possibility to check out but didn’t actually visit Site Build It! until several months later. Well, what I found intrigued me.

The Solution

Click, sit back, and
understand why SBI!
makes you succeed.

I took a video tour of SBI and realized that it offered an all-in-one site-building, site-hosting and site-marketing product to turn me into the perfect online accountant.

The company promised, for a reasonable annual fee, to basically lead me by the hand and teach me all I needed to build an e-business.

They would help me select and register my domain name. Assist me in building my site with their user-friendly system requiring NO knowledge of HTML or web design software. Show me how to write content to rank higher at the search engines and draw more traffic.
They would provide ongoing support, included in this pocket friendly annual fee.

It sounded too good to be true, so I started searching the Internet for people who would warn me SBI is a scam. I couldn’t find those people. What I found were SBI users singing its praises. So I finally purchased my SBI site. Not once have I been disappointed, as I’ve successfully used it to build my own small business website as an online accountant.

I do know my site is pretty simple. I can make it fancier once I learn Dream weaver, FrontPage or GoLive. SBI does support these programs for those more graphically advanced than I am. I’m not really sure I’ll ever do that in the near future, because time is quite precious to me at the moment.

However, I like showing the “proof” of what was done by a small business online accountant who was clueless about the nuts and bolts of starting a website. It’s a simple site, but it’s getting the job done.

My traffic continues to increase as have my search engine rankings, to the extent of out performing big budget websites.

My personal experience is the reason my only suggestion for your small business website is SBI. I know SBI can show you how to start a website that does more than merely exist. They can show you how to add tools – like a blog, web feed or ezine – that keep your site fresh. Unlike many other website “hosts,” these extras are included in your annual fee.

Visitors and clients in search of how the online accountant can help address their business problems have easily found us and kept in touch simply because of SBI.

Dozens Love & Trust SBI

Here's one of the dozens of my favorite Site Build It! success stories. Audrey is a copy writer who is making a leaving off her website by editing content for clients.

She was completely new to website building and I love to tell my friends about Audrey because it proves you don't have to have website building experience to achieve success with SBI!.

Conclusion... Give Your Dream and Passion a Chance!

That, dear reader, is the story of The Small Business Accounting Guide and how our site is strategically positioning my wife and I as the online accountant.

I decided to publish my story for two main reasons:

  • For YOU valued visitor in an attempt to show you that it is possible to accomplish great things in the Internet, provided that you put the required effort and passion on it, and that you use the right tools.
  • As a Christian, to give testimony and share with YOU how I finally found the answer to how someone with specialized knowledge like the online accountant in our case can ably provide services to a distant client.
